Come join an exciting team of river professionals and support staff for Colorado River Discovery's 2008 season. We are currently seeking applicants for hire and training for employment from March through November, 2008.
Colorado River Discovery is an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service/Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and offers 15-mile smoothwater float trips on the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam (near Page, AZ) to Lees Ferry, AZ.
SMOOTH WATER RIVER GUIDES: Guides are responsible for the operation of rafts; for the safety and well-being of of up to 22 passengers; for providing high quality cultural & natural interpretation, education and customer service; and for providing guests with the best one-day raft trip possible. Guides must be 18 years old; pass background checks and drug/alcohol screening. Interest in cultural & natural resource interpretation and environmental education/recreation, and or professional guiding is preferred but not required. CRD conducts all necessary training & certifications. Guides must be able to speak English clearly; work in extreme desert environments including wind, rain, sun exposure, and heat/cold; lift up to 50 lbs.; be able to speak in front of groups; be flexible in scheduling and assignments. Guides must also be able to work in a team environment with numerous personalities. Guides must be responsible & reliable. Being able to speak a second language is a plus. Our biggest requirements are that guides have a great attitude, a love for the outdoors, and a willingness to learn. This is a fun, meaningful job that truly can affect the lives of others. Guides earn per-trip/river-day pay + incentives; wages are extremely competitive among river outfitters.
CDL BUS DRIVERS: Bus drivers are responsible for providing safe transportation of guests to and from the river; some interpretation of resources is required. CRD will train in interpretation. Drivers must have a minimum of a Class B passenger-endorsement, air-brake license. Drivers must be at least 21 years old, and pass background and drug/alcohol screening. Drivers must also be personable and provide top-notch customer service. Drivers must reliable and responsible. Wages are competitive among regional transportation providers.
LUNCH CREW: Lunch Crew staff prepares and presents a high-quality deli-style lunch at a beach on the river. Daily service can include 200 guests. This is both an on- and off-river position. Crew must pass background and drug/alcohol screening. Lunch crew members are responsible for daily food preparation and packing; operating the lunch vessel; setting up, presenting and assisting guests in food service; breaking down lunch beach, and all daily clean-up. Lunch crew members must be at least 18 years old; be willing to work in a desert environment that includes rain, wind, sun exposure, heat/cold. Lunch crew will be required to obtain a valid Coconino County Food Handlers card. CRD will cover the expense of the course. All necessary training as noted above with guides stands for lunch crew as well; and lunch crew members are required to be customer focused, friendly, and organized. Wage is per-trip/day, and is competitive within the food industry.
RESERVATIONS & RETAIL: CRD has both a reservations desk and retail sales floor. Reservations and retail staff must be responsible, reliable, and extremely friendly as guests make reservations, in person or over the phone; check-in for trips; explore the store and make purchases. This front-line staff provides guests with their initial impressions of CRD, and must be able to reflect our requirements in customer service at all times. Reservations/retail staff are responsible for opening/closing; handling cash; producing reports & manifests; inventory; working with computerized reservations system and/or computerized retail systems, and working closely with the Retail Manager and the Sales & Marketing Manager. Reservationists/retail must be at least 16 years old; pass background and drug/alcohol screening; willing to learn all required informational materials; and speak English clearly. Being able to speak a second language is a plus. Experience in Reservations/retail is preferred but not required. Wage is hourly, and competive to regional market.
